What Experts Are Saying
Being thin and healthy, eating what you like yet liking yourself, and controlling your weight without fixating on it for the rest of your life are not about natural gifts, but about the gift of knowing how. That’s a gift you can give yourself—by reading this book.
David L. Katz, Director, Prevention Research Center, Yale University School of Medicine

With a mixture of good sense, a sense of humor, stories from her personal struggle with weight control, and the insights from a bevy of health professionals (including myself), Susan offers up a winning recipe for successful weight control.
Hope S. Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, Author of Diabetes Meal Planning Made Easy (American Diabetes Association) and Eat Out, Eat Right

If you want to learn about nutrition and weight control, Susan is the perfect mentor— she shares her experience with honesty and humor and will help set you on a track for lifelong healthy living.
Dr. Barbara Wilson, BSc Hons, DPhil, Manager of Nutrition Services, www.tescodiets.com

This book is so different from most diet books, and, since my family and I maintain our weight by making smart choices, I found the testimonials from other seemingly naturally thin people inspiring and validating. We’re never deprived, but we don’t give in to overeating either. I’m thrilled that many famous—and not so famous—experts, dietitians, and others all have ditched the diet mentality and advocate staying thin naturally.
Merilee Kern, author of children’s book Making Healthy Choices

Susan Burke March has set out to do something that is sorely needed here in overweight America: To shatter the accepted myths about nutrition, weight, and dieting and to feed us the accurate information we need to make better choices with food and our health. We’d all like to be thinner, naturally. We now have a fighting chance, thanks to Susan’s entertaining and informative new book.
John McGran, Diet.com Chief Editor

Like Susan, I often speak with clients who tell me that they think that everyone else can eat what they want, and they feel like they’re the only ones that need to be careful. It’s not true. Almost all people need to work to stay thin—that’s a necessary part of being healthy, too. It’s similar to having financial awareness—if we just wrote checks and took money out of the ATM, never balancing our account—we’d probably end up broke. But, maintaining consistent consciousness and control, and never assuming that somehow everything will balance out in the end—that’s how to maintain weight, too.
Elizabeth DeRobertis, MS, RD, CDN, CDE, Weight loss and diabetes expert, in practice in New York City

Susan’s advice is inspiring because it is written from her own personal experience as well as her expertise.
Joy Pape, RN BSN CDE WOCN CFCN, President of EnJOY Life!, Health Consultant, and Nationally recognized Certified Diabetes Educator and motivational speaker

This is a balanced and comprehensive book on common sense nutrition presented in an accessible and engaging way. I recommend Making Weight Control Second Nature as a must read for everyone interested in basic components of good health for both the mind and the body.
Colette Heimowitz, V.P. of education and research for Atkins Health & Medical Information Services
